The build, step by step
Cut the Lumber to Length
Measure the length of the lumber you need to connect he gate post to the wall. Take the thickness of the metal plate (flat bar) into account. You can deduct 1/8" (3mm) of allowance from the final length measurement to make the final installation easier. You will need this to do your initial dry-fit test before you start fabricating the bracket.
Dry-Fit: Mark the Location of the Tubing on Plate
Determine where on the plate (flat bar) you need to weld the square tubing, use the lumber you just cut to your desired length and the plate (flat bar), position the final location of the bracket, and mark the location of the welded bracket on the wall. You can also decide where the location of the holes would be considering your access later on to drill/drive the screws into the wall.

Take safety seriously. Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times when working on this project. Read all manufacturers' user manuals to familiarize yourself with your equipment. Wear a welding helmet with the proper dimming level/shade number that matches the welding process you will use. Weat safety glasses/goggles and/or a face shield while grinding. Ask for help if you think you need it. This will reduce the risk of injury to yourself in steps when an extra set of hands are of geat help.
- Check your local building codes for any type of connection/attachemtn to your house.
